The members of the Province of Saint Augustine in California celebrated the first part of their Ordinary Provincial Chapter from January 24-26, 2023 at Saint Augustine High School in San Diego
During these days, the General Councillor for North America, father Joseph Farrell OSA, presided over the work of the Chapter. Gary Sanders OSA was re-elected, as is well known, in November, and was sworn in as Prior Provincial again at evening prayer on 24 January. The following councillors were elected on the second day of the Chapter: Barnaby Johns, Carlos Medina, Kirk Davis and Maxime Villeneuve. The capitulants then elected Maxime Villeneuve as secretary and treasurer.
Chapter delegates had the opportunity to offer presentations and reflections throughout the days to stimulate discussions and themes for further reflection and discernment. Reflections covered topics such as theological reflections in local chapter houses, creative ideas for the future and changes in the Church and religious life. 4
At the conclusion of the Chapter, commissions were established and are now encouraged to meet in the interim period between the first part of the Chapter and the second part which will take place June 11-16 at Villanova Preparatory School in Ojai, California. Congratulations to the re-elected provincial and council and to all of the brothers in the Province in California.
