Last October 20, the Augustinian religious, the priests of the diocese of Chosica, led by their bishop, Monsignor Norberto Strotmann, and a large group of faithful, celebrated the Mass of thanksgiving on the occasion of the opening of the process of canonization of the Servant of God, the Augustinian Serapio Rivero
The path of "Father Riverito" towards the altar, the affectionate nickname given to the cleric who made hearts burn in the name of the Lord, continues to awaken the fervor of a community that trusts in the good outcome of the process that would lead to the incorporation of a new saint to the Augustinian family.
Father Josef Sciberras, Postulator General of the Order of Saint Augustine, went to Peru for the beginning of the process of canonization, highlighting the life and work of Father Riverito; an apostle dedicated to God, at the service of the Church and the Order.
Stages of the process
The first stage of the process consisted of a preliminary investigation on Rivero's reputation of sanctity. In 2020, the transfer of the forum from the Archdiocese of Lima, where Father Rivero died, to the Diocese of Chosica, the center of devotion to him, was requested.
Already in 2021, Monsignor Norberto Strotmann, opened the process definitively. Subsequently, both the Episcopal Conference of Peru and the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints in the Vatican, gave their favorable opinions to continue with the process and constitute the Tribunal that will judge the merits of the Augustinian priest.
A very close sharing
Once the first session was over, the faithful were invited to the facilities of the Santa Rosa de Chosica school, where Father Riverito served for many years, to visit the photographic exhibit and to have a fraternal sharing.
